Early Care and Education
Child care settings are ideal places for young children to adopt healthy behaviors during their early development years. By creating environments and policies that promote and support physical activity and healthy eating, child care professionals play a critical partnership role in helping young children start school ready to succeed. As children continue to grow, healthy behaviors adopted early in their development will continue to build a solid foundation for a healthier life.
Additional Information and Resources
Since 2010, DHHS CDPC has been working with various partners statewide to impact the health and wellness of children aged 0-5 in child care facilities. In partnership with the Nebraska Department of Education Team Nutrition Program, DHHS CDPC has been implementing the Go NAP SACC initiative to provide training to adapt policies and environments in child care facilities so that young children learn and establish healthy behaviors early on in their development phases. Please see the list below of all the partners who are contributing to the current Go NAP SACC Initiative.

Nutrition and Physical Activity Self-Assessment for Child Care (NAP SACC)
Nutrition and Physical Activity Self-Assessment for Child Care(Go NAP SACC) is designed to promote healthy child development by supporting healthy eating and physical activity for the children in your care. It is intended for providers in child care homes and child care centers that care for children birth to 5 years of age.

Then based on the assessment, you can decide which areas you want to improve. Training and one on one mentoring is available to help you prioritize and reach your goals over the next 3-6 months.
The 5 key elements of Go NAP SACC include the following:
